      Then Peggottys had arrived at London. David made a trip to Yarmouth. He intended to be back before the emigrant ship sailed off with the Micawbers and the Peggotty's. When David reached Yarmouth, a storm was raging furiously. Ham was not at home. He was expected to be back by the next morning. All night the storm raged fiercely. In the morning he came to know from the sailors and boatmen that a ship had been wrecked in the storm. Ham went to rescue a drowning man but was himself struck by the waves and drowned. His body was recovered along with the body of another man. David recognized it. Ham had died trying to save Steerforth.
