Summary

      Marlow accidentally met Jim when he (Marlow) was going to keep an appointment. He took him to Malabar and asked him about his future plans. Jim said that he did not find any place worthy to live. He wished to sit quietly and meditate. Marlow started writing a letter and Jim got engrossed in his thoughts. Suddenly, he got up and stepped out into the verandah. Being a sensitive man, he had taken the court's decision to heart. Marlow felt sympathy for Jim who was under torment and great stress because of the court's verdict and for having abandoned the ship at a crucial moment.
