      Mr. Spenlow is an attorney. He is a little light-haired gentleman. He is very particular about his dress. He is a partner in the firm of Spenlow and Jorkins to whom David Copperfield is articled. He objects to David loving his daughter Dora. He is so protective father that he insists that David not even admits that he loves Dora - as though David's love itself could be harmful. He threatens that he will not allow Dora to inherit his fortune if she continues to see David. He dies by falling from his phaeton and contrary to expectations leaves only a small property.
