WITHIN HIMSELF THE DANGER LIES.....HATH FORBID (LINES 348-356)

Adam tries to persuade Eve not to go away from him to work separately. He advances a number of arguments for this purpose.

He tells her that God has secured man’s happiness from external forces. The danger lies within him and within his power. Man is gifted with free will and it is only through his own free will he may be open to danger. The will was left free by God, for will must obey reason, and reason is always right. But God ordains that man should keep his reasoning faculty ever alert or some evil in the guise of good might confuse his reasoning and may will him to do something forbidden by God.
