      Mr. Peggotty is the brother of Miss Peggotty. He is a hairy man with a good personality. He is kind, affectionate and good natured. He brings up Emily and Ham, two orphans, like his own children; and tries to look after Mrs. Gummidge as well as he can. He is an honest fisherman and is proud of his calling. He is very hospitable and extends invitation to David and Steerforth when he visits David at the Salem House. He is absolutely unselfish in his attitude.
