Mrs. Clara Copperfield is David's mother. She is unusually youthful in her appearance. She was called a 'doll wife' by David's aunt, Betsey Trotwood. She loves David dearly. She is tender and affectionate to him. David lives happily under her tender care till she marries the second time. Some years after the death of her husband she marries Mr. Murdstone. Her life after this is an unhappy one; so unhappy indeed that she dies due to the ill treatment of her husband and his sister; her baby being buried with her. Her beautiful face was a source of great comfort and support to David in his early difficulties and trials.
