Mr. Bumble Brings Bad News

Mr. Bumble had taken some time off from his position at the workhouse to go to London to take care of a legal problem. At a tavern along the road, he read the following newspaper advertisement:

"FIVE GUINEAS REWARD TO ANYONE WITH INFORMATION LEADING TO A YOUNG BOY, OLIVER TWIST, WHO EITHER RAN AWAY OR WAS KIDNAPPED FROM HIS HOME LAST WEEK. THE MONEY WILL GO TO ANY PERSON WHO FINDS OLIVER OR WHO SHEDS ANY LIGHT ON HIS PAST"

Oliver's description and Mr. Brownlow's address were printed in the paper. Mr. Bumble went directly to the gentleman's home and found Mr. Brownlow and Mr. Grimwig in the study drinking tea.
Mr. Bumble Brings Bad News

Oliver's description and Mr. Brownlow's address were printed in the paper. Mr. Bumble went directly to the gentleman's home and found Mr. Brownlow and Mr. Grimwig in the study drinking tea.

Mr. Bumble reported to them all that he knew of Oliver's background: the boy had been born of low parentage, he had been an evil and ungrateful child, and he had attacked another boy and then run away in the middle of the night. Mr. Bumble then presented legal papers proving he knew Oliver.

A Reward Interests Mr. Bumble.....

"Thank you for coming," said Mr. Brownlow sadly. "Here are the five guineas. I only wish your report on Oliver had been more favorable."

"He was such a dear, kind, gentle child," said Mrs. Bedwin.

"Think what you will!" Mr. Brownlow told her. "I am so disappointed in that boy that you are never to mention Oliver's name in this house again."

Disappointing News for Mr. Brownlow.....

Mr. Brownlow was so hurt that Mr. Grimwig decided not to say, "I told you so."
